Brunei Museum

Although no manuscripts of SRRB are listed in the catalogue by Harun and Ismail (1983), the Arkib Negara Brunei—the present custodian of the manuscripts from the Brunei Museum—also holds an incomplete manuscript of Zaman ketakhtaan di negeri Brunei (ANB 1975.001), consisting of 26 numbered pages, with 21 lines per page in often faded blue ink in a cursive hand. On p. 1 the title, which is set into a diamond-shaped frame, begins Alamat zaman katahtaan di negeri Brunei bahwa telah dikutip daripada silsilah dangan peringatan bagi segala raja2 khalifah dan sultan ganti-ganti yang mempunyai takhta kerajaan di dalam negeri Brunei, ‘This is “The era of sovereignty of Brunei”, based on the genealogies, a guide to the princes and leaders and sultans who have in turn occupied the throne in the state of Brunei’ and ends with a dedication to Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin (r. 1924–1950).

On the basis of a few photographs, the chronicle begins (p. 2) with the story of Alak Betatar and Patih Berbai going to Johor, while the last available page (p. 26) describes the Spanish attack on Brunei. Thus, although incomplete, this appears to be a detailed historical chronicle, with 25 pages of text covering the reigns of the first six rulers. On the back cover is a note: diserahkan pada 18/3/83, 1403–1983, presumably relating to its presentation to the Brunei Museum, while on the front cover (p. 1), there is a note about a birth: Pengiran Anak Tangah Muhammad Khasan tarikh lahir pada 1921 hari Khamis bulan Januari.
